SoulNRnB's Great Producers 9 - Louie Vega

One half of the masterful Masters at Work with partner Kenny Dope, Louie Vega helped shape the soulful house blueprint. From the mid Nineties until the present day, hes a prominent force on the house scene.

So why seperate him from Kenny when he too is an excellent producer, arranger and remixer?

Well, Its Louie's work away from MAW and Nu Yorican Soul that grabs me just as much. His remixing and production arranging work for other artists, his work with Elements of Life, the promotion of the latin sound (Thats obviously in his blood) that we just dont hear that often nowadays.

So this is a little showcase of Louie's talents, both with and without Kenny (Who may get his one of these too!).

Not only a great DJ (Check out his sets which blend old and new, as well as some of the best soulful house out there), but a great producer/arranger/writer. He deserves his place on my list!

I used to be such a music snob and wouldnt listen to "House Music" but between MAW and Blaze they changed all that!! IMO this is the Jazz-Funk of our day. Hope you liked Rehab! :)

blaze....mmmm. i confess i have that same snobbery in my blood...but its has changed a few degrees thanks to the masters at work, blaze lisa shaw and a few others..
like incognito, and the brand new heavies... definitely the new jazz funk fusion.i think it was because i craved soulful vocals like omar and the above mentioned that really hits that musical G spot.
I have never been to a rave....ever!...dont think i missed much, just because i didnt get on one matey!...lol.

I too missed the rave scene!!

Got a mix coming up with that new jazz/funk/soul feel with bands like THE REBIRTH who's lp I would recommend to all, so keep an eye out for that one Rehab.

As for musical snobbery, none of us get close to Grizz!!

Amen to that!!! If any Soul/Jazz/Reggae aint prior to 1984 it has to go through a series of rigourous quality checks b4 it even gets near a turntable in this house!!!
