Now you may appreciate
that the vast bulk of my collection stems from pre 1985 however I do
have a small, but growing section dedicated to those newer bands who
base their sound on the Funk of yesteryear. And a record label who
personifies this sound is New Yorks own Daptone Records!
This
mix is a selection of some of the bands on that label including
rediscovered funk veteran Charles Bradley (check out his excellent Bio
movie!), Saun and Starr, Sugarman 3, The Budos Band, and Sharon Jones
& The Dapkings- the labels house band whose sound was borrowed for
Amy Winehouses Back to Black LP... plus many others to checkout.
